Women of World War One – A tribute in music, words and images

Scheduled to coincide with the centenary of the First World War, Women of World War One is a powerful and moving portrait of women’s lives, created by Musicians South West in collaboration with Petra Schofield/Magic Penny Productions and performed by Trio Paradis.

Poetry and prose extracts on the subject of women’s experience of this cataclysmic event are vividly illustrated with slides and with pieces of music for piano and stringed instruments by female composers who were writing at the time of the Great War.

Letters to and from loved ones, poems, memoirs and diaries of nurses, those in the Women’s Land Army and others, are matched with music by such composers as Rebecca Clarke, Nadia and Lili Boulanger and the recently rediscovered songwriter, Muriel Herbert.

The performance can be seen at various venues across the SW this Autumn, including Winsley, Calne and Malmesbury.
