You are invited to attend the final performance of The Calne War Memorial Project on Thursday 12th June – 6.00pm: St Mary’s Church, Calne – Admission Free
The centenary of the First World War in 2014 provides an opportunity for young people in Calne to connect with this part of their fading local heritage and the Calne War Memorial Project aims to bring back to life the names on the War Memorial. Through the use of Oral Histories and training from the British Library, pupils have been talking to local people to rediscover the names on the memorial and discover who they were in the context of Calne 100 years ago, what happened to them in the Great War and the effect their loss had on Calne during the last 100 years.
Following seven days of creative workshops with a team of Bath Philharmonia’s professional musicians from Music-in-Action, pupils from The John Bentley School, St Mary’s School and Springfield’s Academy will turn this information into a musical presentation.
The project is supported by Calne Music and Arts Festival with a generous grant from the National Lottery’s Heritage Lottery Fund. Our other partners include: The John Bentley School, St Mary’s School and Springfield’s Academy, and Sue Boddington from the Calne Heritage Centre.
Now drawing to a close, we will be celebrating the project with a final concert in St Mary’s Church on Thursday June 12th at 6.00pm and I would like to invite you to join us for the evening and support our next generation of musicians working alongside musicians from Bath Philharmonia.
Further details of the project can be found on the Festival website (www.cmaf.org.uk) or by emailing us at email@example.com
